Welcome to Big Bend Feldenkrais®

It’s not about learning the things you already do, it’s about how to do them better.

What is Big Bend Feldenkrais?

Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais developed the Feldenkrais Method® as a powerful approach to improving your life that uses gentle, mindful movement.  These movements bring new awareness and possibility into every aspect of your life.  The Feldenkrais Method  helps people worldwide.

Dr. Ruthy Alon was an early student of Dr. Feldenkrais and has used his educational principals to develop Movement Intelligence (MI):

Bones for Life®, Walk for Life, Chairs, Mindful Eating and Solutions.

I learned of the Feldenkrais Method while getting clinical massage training at Utah College of Massage Therapy, Salt Lake City, in 1997.

Other modalities learned in massage school and post massage school are also offered.

Private, one to one lessons are called Functional Integration lessons.  Gentle movements and directed attention may be used to show you options.

Bones for Life®

Movement training, with its roots in Feldenkrais Method®, used to strengthen bones, and improve weight-bearing posture.  Self-generated vibration and simple props are used to provide resistance.

Walk for Life

Developed after Bones for Life, taking advantage of the well-known benefits of walking and balance, using a parallel approach to Bones for Life based on movement intelligence and awareness.

Chairs

Provides similar benefits as the above, particularly for those not quite as mobile or in a more confined space such as an office, but still desiring to reap the benefits of movement intelligence and awareness.

Mindful Eating

Ruthy's equation for mindful eating

Ruthy’s equation for mindful eating

where M = Mass, and V = Velocity

We can reduce our body mass by:

  • decreasing our intake of food
  • decreasing the speed at which we eat
  • increasing our pleasure in eating

. . . or by using any combination of these three strategies.
